Author Jennifer Lawler has a series of short books called Dojo Wisdom. In the books she relates the topic to her experience with martial arts. My wife picked up her Dojo Wisdom for Writers at the library thinking it would be something cool for me to check out since I'm very interested in martial arts and I'm doing the filmmaking - directing, writing thing. This is one of the best books I've ever read! This lady really knows her stuff and she is not only a successful martial arts teacher but also a successful writer. I highly recommend people who are interested in any kind of writing or filmmaking or pretty much any kind of career that follows those same line to read this book. There is a lot of great wisdom in these things as well as some stuff that surprisingly isn't commonly thought of or put together. There were plenty of "Ooooooh" moments for me while reading this thing. I'm in the middle of putting some notes together from the book so I can share a bit of it with folks. I'm not big on reading books, I find it boring and time consuming in a bad way. Unless it's something that is an instruction manual or some kind of tutorial (and I even just skim those) I don't often pick up much reading material. In this case I'm really glad I did and me recommending this book is a really big deal.
